Getting the best care sometimes means cancer patients must travel away from home. This can place an extra emotional and financial burden on patients and caregivers during an already challenging time. The American Cancer Society is trying to make this difficult situation easier for both cancer patients and their families through our lodging programs.
American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® communities offer a home away from home for people facing cancer and their caregivers when cancer treatment is far away.
At the 30+ Hope Lodge locations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, ACS provides free lodging to more than 29,000 cancer patients and caregivers each year, saving them more than $55 million in lodging costs.
Here we can sit together — he’s not in a hospital gown or hooked up to machines. Being able to spend time with him here has been fabulous.
The American Cancer Society and Extended Stay America are once again partnering to connect eligible patients with cancer to free and reduced-rate hotel stays in more than 600 locations across the country.
For cancer patients, getting the right treatment sometimes requires traveling away from home. Lodging expenses can present a significant financial barrier to receiving lifesaving treatment, and financial barriers are known to contribute to disparities in cancer outcomes. The partnership with Extended Stay America will help fill critical gaps and is aligned with the ACS goal of improving lives for people with cancer.
The American Cancer Society and Extended Stay America began the partnership in 2013. To date, Extended Stay America has donated more than 150,000 hotel room nights throughout the US, saving patients with cancer and their families over $9 million in lodging costs.
